Swimming Pool?
I am wanting to purchase a swimming pool for my grandchildren.
Easy set-up 3-4ft. deep, here’s the problem. Our house is located on a hill, the only flat place is on our deck. The deck is not really the idea place, worried with the weight. Is there an easy solution,or would the deck be ok? Any other suggestions would help, thanks

depending on the size of the pool on wether or not you deck can handle it – typically a pool 3-4 feet deep will be 10-12 in diameter minimum – I’d vote no on using the deck – initially it might handle the weight but over time things will start to settle and break. I once intalled a hot tub on my deck and it was ok at first but in two years I had major problems. I would have someone that builds look at your deck but I would advise against it. Now how out of level is your yard? – with a little planning such as a decretive retaining wall and some dirt infill you could build an area up level to handle the pool just fine. With some guidence or know how you could do most of it yourselves – contact me for details
get a jucuzzie instead
If the deck is built right, it can hold the weight. I did the same thing with my deck. However, I built my own deck, so I knew it could hold the weight. Generally, if there are 2×6 joists and 4×4 beams at least every 16" to 24" apart, you shouldn’t have any problem.
1 Gallon of water = 8.35 pounds
multiply that by the number of gallons of the pool + the weight of the people who will be using it at one time. This will give you a rough estimate.
Why not build an add on to the deck, just a platform, for the pool. That way, you won’t lose the functionality of the deck itself.
if there is no place to put it at then there is no point in purchasing a pool. why not just bring them to a REC center
get a juccuzi its the best!!
If you do not use the deck, which by the way is really not the ideal place, then you will have to get sand and level off a place to put the pool. A bit more work but a much better idea.
If the Pool has a large diameter I wouldn’t trust the weight on a deck.
You should have an area of your lawn graded. NO pool on your deck !!! DANGER DANGER DANGER!!!
set it up on the slope if its not to steep, that way you ll have a shallow an deep end
have you thought of a wadding pool
Is there any way that you could level a piece of ground in your garden, or mabey dig a piece of the hill away?
instead of a pool why dont u try putting a jacuzzi on the deck? it would be lovely and add some class to the home.
If the deck will support you and several others, it should support the pool. Get a cheap plastic one and don’t put a lot of water in it (just a couple of inches). The kids will just be happy splashing around anyway. It doesn’t matter how much water is in it. Get blow up balls, water guns, or other water toys for the pool and they’ll be happy. When the summer is over, you can then use the plastic pool as a sandbox (if you find some sort of lid) or I’ve even seen some people use them as planters.
Other solution, what about the driveway or the front of the house?
Deb baby,
pls is not need to purchase a swimming pool for your grand kids and how old are they.
pls first check their years and if any thing else get to know how best they come swimm ok.
suggestion
can u take them over for a swim and verify that they can really swim or not before u can go forward and do that for them ok
thanks Deb
the deck should be fine as the wieght can be reinforced underneath making it very stable
What does the front yard look like? Maybe you could put the pool there instead and build a small fence around it?
I recommend a flat surface (best to be a deck).
If your pool is so heavy that it would crack a wooden deck, use something stronger (such as cement). But if your pool is the average weight (or below), I would recommend a leveled wooden deck to put your pool on.
Don’t put the thing on the deck. Level a spot in the yard if you must. But if you are going to all that trouble I sure wouldn’t waste my money on one of those awful e z set pools. The thing will play out in very short order then you are stuck with a funny looking flat spot in the yard! Think about it.
